ਹਰਮਨਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ, “ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਆਖਰੀ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੱਟੀਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਿਆ, ਬੋਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਟਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਲਾਸਾਂ ਲਾਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੋਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਰੇ ਬਣੇ ਟਿੱਚ -ਬਟਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਕੂਲੀ ਬਸਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਤਿਆ। ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਜਮਾਤ ਤੱਕ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਟਾਟ ਅਤੇ ਡੈਸਕ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਬੈਠਣ ਲਈ ਬੋਰੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਘਰੋਂ ਲਿਜਾਣੀਆਂ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ।“
ਹਰਮਨਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 20 ਸਤੰਬਰ 1994 ਨੂੰ ਪਿੰਡ ਕੀਰਤੋਵਾਲ, ਤਹਿਸੀਲਪੱਟੀ, ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਤਰਨਤਾਰਨ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਛੋਟੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਉਸਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਅਜੇ ਡੇਢ ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਵਾਰਉਸਦੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਧੰਨਾ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ (ਤਹਿਸੀਲ ਜ਼ੀਰਾ, ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ) ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਵੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਹੋਇਆ । ਉਸਦੇ ਨੇੜਲੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਦੀ ਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾਇੱਕ ਵੱਡੀ ਭੈਣ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹੁਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।
ਉਸਨੇ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਤੱਕ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਪਿੰਡ ਧੰਨਾ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਦੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਇਮਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿੱਚਹੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ 10ਵੀਂ ਤਕ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨੇੜਲੇ ਪਿੰਡਾਂ ਦੇਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਈਕਲ ਦੀ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ। 11ਵੀਅਤੇ 12ਵੀ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਤਲਵੰਡੀ ਭਾਈ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਕਾਈ ।ਸਾਰੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਦਾ ਮਾਧਿਆਮ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਆਰਟਸ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ । ਬ੍ਰਿਜਿੰਦਰਾ ਕਾਲਜ ,ਫਰੀਦਕੋਟ ਤੋਂ ਬੀ.ਏ. ਕਰਨ ਮਗਰੋਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਵਿਚਮਾਸਟਰ ਦੀ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਰਿਜਨਲ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਲੱਧੇਵਾਲੀ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਤੋਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਹਰਮਨਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਿਛਲੇ 9 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਟਮੀਡੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਡਿਜੀਟਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਸੰਗਠਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਟ੍ਰਿਬਿਊਨ, ਹਿੰਦੁਸਤਾਨ ਟਾਈਮਜ਼, ਟਾਈਮਜ਼ ਆਫ਼ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇਇਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਬੀ.ਬੀ. ਸੀ. ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲਈ ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਤਾਇਨਾਤ ਹੈ । ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਕੇਂਦਰਾਂ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਲੰਧਰ, ਬਰਨਾਲਾ, ਸੰਗਰੂਰ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ, ਮੋਹਾਲੀ, ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ, ਵਿਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰ ਉਸਨੂੰਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ, ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਮੁੱਦਿਆਂ, ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੇਸਮਾਜਿਕ-ਆਰਥਿਕ ਢਾਂਚੇ ਦੀ ਚੰਗੀ ਸਮਝ ਹੈ ।
ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ, ਸਿਹਤ, ਸਿੱਖਿਆ, ਅਪਰਾਧ, ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਮੁੱਦੇ, ਰਾਜਨੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਥਾਨਕਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਆਦਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਕੁਝ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਬੀਟਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਵਰ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾਉਹ ਨਿਯਮਿਤ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਖੋਜੀ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਆਪਣੀ ਖੋਜੀ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਨੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਖਣਨ , ਨਸ਼ੇ ਅਤੇਪੰਜਾਬ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਪੱਧਰ 'ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਸ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ।

Harmandeep Singh says, “I am from that last generation who used wooden writing boards in schools, sat in classes on jute sacks and used home-made school bags stitched out of sacks with tich-buttons. Up until the fifth grade, there were no mats and desks in school, so we had to carry sacks from home to sit on.”
Harmandeep Singh was born on 20 September 1994 in a small farming family in village Kirtowal, Tehsil Patti, District Tarn Taran. He was just one and a half years old when his father died and the family was forced to move to his maternal village Dhanna Shaheed (Tehsil Zira, District Ferozepur). Apart from his mother, his immediate family includes an elder sister who now lives in Canada with her family.
He studied up to 5th standard in the government primary school of village Dhanna Shaheed and then up to 10th standard in other nearby villages . He completed his 11th and 12th standards in the government school of Talwandi Bhai. Throughout, his medium of instruction was always Punjabi and the stream chosen was Arts. After completing his B.A. from Brijindra College, Faridkot, he obtained his Master's degree in Journalism from Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus Ladhewali, Jalandhar.
Harmandeep Singh has been a part of various print and digital media organizations in Chandigarh and Punjab for the past 9 years. He has worked with Punjabi Tribune, Hindustan Times, and The Times of India, and is currently posted in Ludhiana with BBC Punjabi. Having worked in major district centres of Punjab including Jalandhar, Barnala, Sangrur, Patiala, Mohali, Ludhiana and Chandigarh, he has a good understanding of Punjab's past and present issues, and the socio-economic structure of the state.
Apart from covering some important beats related to agriculture, health, education, crime, social issues, politics and local governance, he is regularly doing investigative journalism. The topics he has covered in his investigative journalism include issues of illegal mining, drugs and large-scale migration from Punjab.
