"ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਟਰਾਫੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਿਲਪਕਾਰੀ ਲਈ ਰੂਪਰੇਖਾ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਚਵਾਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਦੋ ਵਿਪਰੀਤ, ਪਰ ਪੂਰਕ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਸੀ: ਨਰਮ ਭਾਵਨਾਤਮਕ ਪੱਖ ਜੋ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਦਾ ਸਰੋਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਠੋਸ ਸੋਚ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਿਮਾਗ ਜੋ ਸਾਡੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀਕੋਣ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਧ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਟਰਾਫੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਦੋ ਸਮੱਗਰੀਆਂ ਇਕੱਠੀਆਂ ਚੁਣੀਆਂ: ਹੇਠਲੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਈ ਟਿਕਾਊ ਅਤੇ ਤਰਾਸ਼ੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਲੱਕੜ, ਅਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਲਈ ਕੈਂਹ ਵਰਗੀ ਠੋਸ ਧਾਤੂ । ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ, ਦੋਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਮੇਲ ਇੱਕ ਲਚਕੀਲੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੂਹ ਦੀ ਤਕੜਾਈ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।"
ਮਸਤਾਨਾ
ਮਹਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਮਸਤਾਨਾ, ਜੋ ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਏਪੀਜੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਆਫ ਫਾਈਨ ਆਰਟਸ, ਜਲੰਧਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੇਵਾਰਤ ਹਨ, ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਊਨਾ, ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
ਆਪਣੇ ਆਲੇ ਦੁਆਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਘੇਰਦੀਆਂ ਚੱਟਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਾੜੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਬਣਤਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਕਰਸ਼ਤ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਾਲ ਮਹਿੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਛੋਟੀ ਉਮਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਕਲਾਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਸੁਹਜਮਈ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਵਿਕਸਿਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ, ਅਤੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਮੂਰਤੀਆਂ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਵੀ। ਉਸਨੇ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਆਰਟਸ ਕਾਲਜ, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਤੋਂ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਕਲਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੀਐਫਏ, ਅਤੇ ਕਲਾ ਭਵਨ, ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀਨਿਕੇਤਨ ਤੋਂ ਐਮਐਫਏ ਦੀਆਂ ਡਿਗਰੀਆਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ।
ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਨਮਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਕਰਤਾ ਮਸਤਾਨਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਰਜੀਆਂ ਕਲਾ ਕਿਰਤਾਂ ਕਈ ਕਲਾ ਮੇਲਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਿਤ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਘੜੀਆਂ ਮੂਰਤੀਆਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੰਸਥਾਗਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਗਤ ਕਲਾ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੋਭਾ ਵਧਾ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

"While creating the sculptural outline for these trophies, I had in mind the two contrasting, yet complementing sides of a thinking person: the soft emotional side that is the font of creation, and the hard thinking mind that shapes our perspective. Hence , I chose two materials together: durable and rich wood for the body, and solid bronze for the head. To me, the combination of the two embodies the resilience of the soul in a lithe body."
Mastana
Mohinder Kumar Mastana, currently Head of the Department of Sculpture in Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, was born in Una, Himachal Pradesh.
Fascinated by the natural formations of rocks and hills surroundings him since birth, he developed an artist's appreciative eye from an early age, and the urge to sculpt. He did his BFA in sculpture from Government Arts College, Chandigarh and MFA from Kala Bhawan, Santiniketan.
Recipient of many awards and distinctions over the years, Mastana's creations have been exhibited at various art fairs and workshops. His works also adorn many Institutional as well as individual collections in India and abroad.
