Since 2019, The Jagjit Singh Anand Memorial Award  is given each year to a journalist for  making commendable contribution to journalism in the preceding year .

 

The endeavour, essentially, is to honour journalists who are not merely columnists or editors, but the ones who are actively engaged in pursuing and  investigating news. Precisely these are the  brave soldiers in the field of journalism who, through their hard work and keen eye of observation , draw our attention to those matters that either remain neglected, or that are constantly being covered up  by powers that be .

 

Under the ambit  of this award, besides the journalists working in Punjabi language media those journalists are also considered  who work  on Punjab-centric issues, or matters of particular concern to Punjabi circles.
