ਸਵਰਾਜਬੀਰ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਵੇਰਕਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਾਲ 1958 ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਪੱਖੋਂ ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਡਾਕਟਰ, ਸੇਵਾ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਪੱਖੋਂ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਸੇਵਾ ਦਾ ਉਚ-ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ,ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਝੁਕਾਅ ਵਜੋਂ ਸਵਰਾਜਬੀਰ ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਕਵੀ ਅਤੇ ਲੇਖਕ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਤੇ ਵੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇ,ਉਸ ਦਾ ਦਿਲ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਰਿਹਾ । ਕਵਿਤਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਟਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ 12 ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਸ ਉੱਘੇ ਲੇਖਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਮੱਸਿਆ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਲਈ 2016 ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਕਾਰੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਕਾਦਮੀ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਸਵਰਾਜਬੀਰ 2018 ਵਿੱਚ ਡੀਜੀਪੀ, ਮੇਘਾਲਿਆ ਦੇ ਅਹੁਦੇ ਤੋਂ ਸੇਵਾਮੁਕਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਸੇਵਾਮੁਕਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਟ੍ਰਿਬਿਊਨ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ ਸਮੂਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ।
ਸਤੰਬਰ 2018 ਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਟ੍ਰਿਬਿਊਨ ਦੇ ਸੰਪਾਦਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਭਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾਯੋਗ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਲਈ ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਆਨੰਦ ਯਾਦਗਾਰੀ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਮੁੱਖ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਸਵਰਾਜਬੀਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ, ਡਾਹਡੇ ਔਖੇ ਅਤੇ ਚੁਣੌਤੀ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਸਮਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਟ੍ਰਿਬਿਊਨ ਦੇ ਸੰਪਾਦਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਮਿਸਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਲੇਰਾਨਾ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਨੇਮ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਬਣਦੀ ਛੋਟ ਦੇ ਕੇ 2020 ਦਾ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਓਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ।

Jagjit Singh Anand Memorial Award Winner-2021
Swarajbir was born in year 1958 at Verka.
A medical doctor by education, IPS officer by service record, he is actually a poet and writer by inclination. He may have been serving anywhere in India, but his heart was always in the Punjab.
A prolific writer having published 12 books of poetry and plays, he was awarded the prestigious Sahitya Academy award in 2016 for his book Massiya Di Raat ( Moonless Night).
Swarajbir retired as DGP, Meghalya in 2018 and after his retirement , he joined the Tribune group of papers . He has been serving as the Editor of Punjabi Tribune since September 2018.
Though Jagjit Singh Anand Memorial Award for commendable contribution in journalism is primarily given to field journalists , an honourable exception was made in Swarajbir’ s case for his exemplary and courageous role as the editor of Punjabi Tribune in particularly trying times.
