Jatinder Tur's Award Acceptance Speech
ਮਾਰਚ 1974 ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਗਲੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮੀ, ਜਤਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਤੁੜ ਨੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਵਿਦਿਆਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਹਵਾਈ ਸੈਨਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੇਵਾਰਤ ਸਨ ।
ਰਸਮੀ ਤੌਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੈਰੀਅਰ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਉਸਨੇ 2000 ਵਿੱਚ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੰਡੀਅਨ ਐਕਸਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਰਹੱਦੀ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਰਖਦਿਆਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਖਾੜਕੂਵਾਦ ਦੇ ਅੰਤਲੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਭਾਵ ਬਾਰੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਕੱਢਦੀ ਰਹੀ ।
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸਨੇ ਟਾਈਮਜ਼ ਆਫ਼ ਇੰਡੀਆ, ਹਿੰਦੁਸਤਾਨ ਟਾਈਮਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਡੈਕਨ ਹੈਰਾਲਡ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਉਹ ਸਹਿਯੋਗੀ ਲੇਖਕ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਕਾਰਵਾਂ ( ਦ ਕੈਰਾਵਨ) ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ।
ਕਿਡਨੀ ਘੋਟਾਲਾ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਰੂਣ ਹੱਤਿਆਵਾਂ, ਸੈਕਸ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਘੁਟਾਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਆਂਪਾਲਿਕਾ ਦੀ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਲੀਭੁਗਤ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਖੁਦਕੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਆਦਿ ਬਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਖੋਜ ਕਹਾਣੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਗਿਆ ।
2021 ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ, ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਮਸਲਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਹਿਮ ਤੱਥ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਲੇਖ ਅਤੇ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਏ : ਨਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਟਾਲਾ-ਮਟੋਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਮਜੀਠੀਆ ਦੀ ਕਾਰਗੁਜ਼ਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਜ ਉਘੇੜਦਾ ਖੋਜ-ਲੇਖ, ਲਖੀਮਪੁਰ ਖੇੜੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਅਜੈ ਮਿਸ਼ਰਾ ਟੈਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਪੁਤਰ ਆਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਮਿਸ਼ਰਾ ਦੇ ਰੋਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਪਸ਼ਟ ਸਾਬਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਇਤਿਆਦ।
ਇਸ ਖੋਜੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਿੰਗ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾਯੋਗ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਜਤਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਤੁੜ ਨੂੰ 2022 ਦੇ ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਆਨੰਦ ਸਿਮਰਤੀ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ ।
Born in Bangalore in March 1974, Jatinder Kaur Tur studied at various Kendriya Vidyalayas as her father served with the Indian Air Force.
She started her career formally with The Indian Express in Amritsar in 2000 looking after the border districts while constantly digging out stories during the tail end of militancy and its fall out in Punjab.
Subsequently she has worked with the Times of India, Hindustan Times and Deccan Herald. She is currently associated with The Caravan as a contributing writer.
Her investigative stories on the kidney racket, female foeticide in Punjab, role and connivance of judiciary in sex and other scandals, farmer suicides in Punjab have been much appreciated over the years.
During 2021, she worked on many articles and reports unmasking important facts about issues related to Punjab, that include : Government’s procrastination on the matter of drugs and B S Majithia’s involvement; the role of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Tanny and his son Ashish Mishra in Lakhimpur Kheri incidents, besides others.
Jatinder Kaur Tur was honoured with the Jagjit Singh Anand Memorial Award in 2022 for her commendable work in journalism through investigative reporting.
